Genesis 1-13; 90-day read through. Day One

“Sin is crouching at the door; its desire is contrary to you, but you must rule over it.” This verse has touched me like never before. God presents a warning about the origin of sin in our lives.

When God Himself presented this warning, Cain had not sinned yet. He was only in the emotion point of a temptation. He had this time to consider how to allow his anger to spur on his actions. God presented him with a precise, unambiguous choice.

In the movie InsideOut 2, sadness asks, “What if her bad feelings make her have bad beliefs?” That question is apropos to God’s warning. Our emotions set out to make us believe how we feel should dictate our thoughts, which then leads to a belief that takes on an action. That action can be sin, but God gives us the antithetical proposition, “You must rule over it.”

We cannot begin the rule at the action point. We must start with the feelings. Whichever place we put the starting line will concluded if we are ruled over or if we rule.

God made the choices clear with his merciful warning.
