Want God’s Will today? By regularly reading and studying the Bible, you receive the authoritative Word and Will of God. His commands leap off the page and into your hearts.
Then, today, there will be the mandate for those serious about living the will of God to humbly and joyfully obey. Even if what he declares is antithetical to what you desire.
The first step to wanting God’s will is to start off by wanting to obey what is discovered by Scripture, (what Jesus commands you). Be a Berean (Acts 17: 11). God’s Word is the Authority of His Will not the doctrinal difference of denominations or Famed television personalities. It’s easy work, adopting beliefs spoon fed to you. Then we, parrot what we’ve heard without questions or knowing why we’ve believed something.
We are responsible to examine the Scripture and Do it, according to what Jesus Commands. If someone ask, “why do you believe that?” You can answer, “because I studied this and I can show you from Scripture why I do.” Or they ask, “what is God’s Will about...?” You can show them from The Bible and leave them in God’s hand to search what you showed them for themselves. It’s circuitous. Each one doing the work of discovery themselves.
My favorite memorized devotion is from My Utmost for His Highest from Dec. 15, “if you cannot express yourself well on each of your beliefs, work and study until you can. If you don’t, other people may miss out on the blessings that come from knowing the truth. Strive to re-express a truth of God to yourself clearly and understandably, and God will use that same explanation when you share it with someone else.“
It is this work that opens, for each of us, the will of God leading to obedience and a lifestyle that pleases Him. We will become transformed for him, not being conformed to the world; being made in the likeness of the Son and not in the image of your favorite speaker.
Caveat this doesn’t dismiss the work and ministry of Pastors and teachers for the edification of the Church. They are just not meant to be our lords just our brothers using their gifts to obey God and uplift his children. We are each responsible to study, know God’s Will, and examine to see if what’s taught lines up. Our homework, in knowing God’s Will is getting it directly from Him, first. Then allowing the Pastor’s or teachers to pour into you from what you’ve examined yourself. Or if there’s new information, to you, you’ve got 6 days to examine. If Paul, in Acts 17 wasn’t offended, but complimentary, then neither should they.
Knowing God’s Will for today, starts today! There’s work to be done. The question? “Do you know why you believe what you believe?” On any topic can you exegete from Scripture to Scripture and in context confirm what you believe? What subjects are mandatory to be absolute about? Which are important, yet secondary? What subjects are worth dividing over and which are just great for debate then going out to lunch?
This may be the framework of finding God’s Will today? But am I correct? That’s where examination begins. 😉
