Human Anger

What to do with human anger which is usually selfish, self focused and sinful?

Psalms are filled with all manner of emotion expressed to God. What I love the most is the Psalms teach us how to cry out to God for justice without looking for our own revenge or other sinful outlets. Again, Cookie, with the Imprecatory psalms?

Yes, they are a necessary source of prayer when you cannot see your way through frustration. Their aim is evil and unjust ways, and for God’s glory not our own satisfaction. Their aim is to bring Justice which God must put forth, because it is inline with his character.

Their aim 58:11 “So that men will say, ‘surely there is a reward for the righteous; surely He is God who judged in the earth.’”

5:10-11 “Pronounce them guilty, O God! Let them fall by their own counsels; Cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; For they have rebelled against You. But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You; Let them ever shout for joy, because you defend them; let those also who love Your name (character) Be joyful in You.”

One of the keys to examining our motives is walking in His Spirit while waiting for His timing. You know you’re walking in his Spirit if you are exhibiting His fruit.

The ultimate goal of an imprecation is found in 83:16 “Fill their faces with shame, That THEY MAY SEEK YOUR NAME, O LORD.”

If we can pray for the salvation of those we believe mean harm, that’s the ultimate test of our motives.

Shame is exemplified by Godly sorrow that looks like Peter after denying Jesus. (2 Corinthians 7:10-11) it brings repentance. God is more than able to distinguish those who he’s given opportunity after opportunity. Then, he, through his Omniscience can allow a Judas ending if folks don’t repent. Let God be THE JUDGE! He alone can distinguish RIGHTEOUSLY!

Our sinful anger only works against us as God looks on.
