Righteousness and Justice

My last double-digit Psalm. I love how the Psalms have repeated God's demand for righteousness and justice. Psalm 97 says, "righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne." Psalm 96 says, "He shall judge the peoples righteously." Psalm 98 says, "For He is coming to judge the earth. With righteousness, He shall judge the world and the people with equity." And today's Psalm 99 says, "The KING's strength also loves justice; You have established equity; You have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob." The complaint God had against Israel and the reason for their captivity in Scripture was their lack of righteousness and neglecting justice. In Isaiah 5, God says he planted a vineyard looking for fruits of these characteristics among the political and religious leaders, and THERE WAS NONE! The lack of these requirements being carried out led to the people behaving corruptly and applauding corruption. God's mercy turned to his own display of what he required, righteousness and justice. The reality, even today, he requires the same. He looks at Nation's leaders, both political and 'religious,' to carry out his commands. And exactly as he looked on at Israel's and saw none, He had to display what he required. He is the same today as he was then. The consequence: those who knew what to do and neglected it found themselves under the hand of The Just God coming against them. The lesson: we, leaders and people, must execute righteousness and justice as God requires, as he has for all people at all times, it hasn't changed. The leaders of Nations have a responsibility given by God. If they, we, continue to neglect so great a command, we will experience the very requirements from God who waits patiently. There will be real righteousness and justice in our land. We need to pray that our leaders act before God does.
